Keystone Conduits
KC Designation · SBX-PAT Classification · Restricted StudyThe Sublayer is not inaccessible. It has been entered. The problem—the problem Pastore has been working on for longer than most governments have existed—is not getting in. It is getting out. And getting in again. And surviving both, repeatedly, without the cumulative exposure that has ended every direct incursion attempt in Pastore's documented history.
The Sublayer's properties are hostile to human biology in the same way radiation is hostile to human biology—not through any intent, but through fundamental incompatibility. Extended contact degrades the subject. Brief contact degrades the subject more slowly. The mathematics of repeated incursion, by any conventional means, resolves to the same endpoint.
There are exceptions.
What a Keystone Conduit Is
A Keystone Conduit is a person whose biology does not respond to Sublayer exposure in the standard way. They can enter. They can exit. They can do so repeatedly. The cumulative effects that destroy other subjects do not accumulate in them, or accumulate so slowly as to be functionally irrelevant within any observed timeframe.
They are not immune to the Sublayer. They are compatible with it in a way that other humans are not.
How this compatibility arises is not understood. It does not appear to be hereditary in any simple sense. It does not correlate with any known biological or genetic marker that SBX-PHY or SBX-MED has identified. It appears, from the pattern data SBX-PAT has assembled, to be distributed essentially randomly across the human population—rare enough that active search is required, common enough that Pastore believes the population is not zero.
SBX-PAT designates confirmed or suspected Keystone Conduits with the prefix KC followed by a sequential identifier. KC-01, KC-02, and so on. The current count is not disclosed in this interface.
Why Pastore Wants Them
Pastore's goal—the goal Alessandrio Pastore articulated in 1460 and every successor has inherited—is stable, repeatable access to the Sublayer. Not a single crossing. Not a sacrificial incursion. Sustainable, controlled, indefinite access to whatever exists on the other side.
A Keystone Conduit is the closest thing to a solution that five centuries of research have produced. Study a KC extensively enough and you understand the mechanism of compatibility. Understand the mechanism and you can potentially replicate it. Replicate it and the door that has been costing Pastore everything to crack open for five hundred years stays open.
That is the project. The Demon Cores are the key. The Keystone Conduits are the blueprint. The Sublayer is the destination.
KC-03
The designation KC-03 appears in the restricted access layer of this archive. What it refers to is not disclosed here.
If you found this page while trying to understand what KC-03 means, you already know more than most people who have encountered that designation. The rest is in the layer itself.
The key is KC-03.
